Yesterday was my last full day in Wanging’ombe. And in many ways, it was truly a celebration of the great progress made at INUKA since I arrived three weeks ago today.

It was so fitting that on my last full day, I was able to see the new Outpatient Building (funded by Hope for Tanzania) full of patients seeking treatment.

Ya Mungu Mengi, God can do a lot … if only we do our part to advance God’s plans and desires.

Fr. Nestor assumed leadership at INUKA less than one year ago (in Marc, 2021), and Hope for Tanzania at Saints Peter and Paul only began its fundraising efforts last summer (in 2021) … yet, here I was, marveling at this new building filled with a committed staff seeking to  provide for people seeking answers, direction, comfort and treatment for their health needs. God CAN do a lot!

INUKA began as a rehabilitation center, and that continues to be the heart of its mission. At left you will see a photo of Freddy (Frederico) and his son, Ferris. Freddy has been bringing his son to INUKA for a couple of years now, and has seen real improvement for Ferris; they will be back for more treatment in June. I commended Freddy for bringing his son to INUKA; again, it is so rare to see a father in this culture take on that responsibility.

Several of the photos that follow below are of the first full day of operation at the new Outpatient Building. INUKA must now provide medical screenings for all rehabilitation patients seeking treatment, and it also now has the responsibility of being a regional health center.

Yesterday, the new Outpatient Building was buzzing with activity. Some of the medical equipment purchased by Hope for Tanzania is not operational yet (for example, the ultrasound machine), because the electrical power for the building still needs to be stabilized. But that too, will happen.

















At the conclusion of the day, the INUKA staff hosted a farewell celebration for me, which was certainly not expected. I found joy in the staff’s joy. I truly think the new leadership under Fr. Nestor (Managing Director effective March 2021) and Musa Mgaya (Hospital Administrator effective August 2021), and the new building, have given the staff hope and new energy.

The INUKA staff presented me with several gifts: a traditional African shirt, a framed photo of the new building, some garb of the traditional Masai tribe, and a painting of an elephant.

A spokesperson for the staff explained the elephant painting (shown right): as the largest land animal, the elephant painting represented the huge heart that made this new outpatient building possible, and the energy that this building has created among the staff.

I have every confidence that God’s healing work will continue to be advanced at INUKA; it is a gift for Hope For Tanzania at Saints Peter and Paul to support their healing and life-giving work.
